Renovate Brooklyn! Day Twenty-Nine: Ta-Da!

As promised, we've added a little more to our bedroom re-design, and fingers crossed, this is it until we pull down the ceilings. (Uggggggggghhhhhh.)

The first thing you might notice is that we've installed new window treatments. This was motivated by a couple of things... We originally had those dowdy peach-colored silk roman shades that I'd salvaged from a previous project, and I realized that somehow I'd become beholden to them-- because they were free and not because I actually liked them. And as I stood in TJMaxx contemplating buying new sheets and a coverlet to match these dowdy shades, I suddenly thought, "Wait a minute. I don't even like them. I'm just trying to make them work, and spending money doing it." That is decidedly not free. And also not smart. (STUPID.)

And so, with no further ado, I decided to take them down. Which leads us to the second reason for our new window treatments. It was brought to my attention that we don't have nearly enough fabric between us and the street and I was most likely putting on quite a spectacle each evening. Oops. So-- new sheers were definitely going up. Can I say oops again? And since the peach shades were coming down, I thought I'd seize the opportunity to add a little more green to the room and bought these citron linen drapes from IKEA. Awesome all around.

Around midnight last night, while peacefully reading my book, I suddenly sat up in bed and stared down the tall orange dresser. "What was it doing over there!?!" I wondered... "And why was the chair over there?" I thought incredulously. Yes- INCREDULOUSLY. That's how surprised I was to discover that all of our furniture was in the wrong place. I am a designer after all! You'd think if someone was going to know where their furniture should go, I'd be the gal. But rooms are meant to be revised, furniture is meant to be moved around... That's what makes interior design fun-- things are meant to be maleable and fluid-- it doesn't HAVE TO BE just one way.

And so, I woke up first thing this morning, and moved everything around. Before I even walked the dog. That's how incensed I was by the obviousness of the new arrangement. And "TA-DA!" Here are the results...

*For the very keen-eyed, you might also have noticed that our headboard has changed... ever so slightly. Our headboard used to be a shorter version of what you see now, because it was actually a foot-board and now we're using the proper headboard because I wanted it to look a little more dramatic. And awesome.
